On the mountains in Kufsteinerland

The alarm rings earlier than usual. Even though you're on holiday. But your anticipation is greater than the desire to stay in bed. Today you're going high up onto the peaks of Kufsteinerland. Your goal - a mountain breakfast at one of the rustic alm huts - will be topped off with an amazing sunrise. At the latest when the first rays of sun warm your face, and the host treats you to a typical Tyrolean breakfast, you will forget the strain that it took to get here. But which of our countless alms have a nice breakfast? I'll present the top 5 locations in Kufsteinerland for a delicious breakfast.

Veitenhof – for cheese lovers

The ascent to the first guesthouse in the Kaisertal nature reserve, Berggasthof Veitenhof in Ebbs, only takes half an hour. And it's not only the view from the sun terrace at 709 meters – to the west of Kufstein, to the east of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range – that's worth a look. The breakfast (from 9 am) is also more than worth seeing. Sausage, spreads, yoghurt with muesli and fruit, a juice bar, eggs, jam and honey, served with a variety of breads. But that's not all: Cheese lovers can enjoy 25-30 (!) different types of cheese. Accompanied by a freshly tapped "Kaiser beer" – who would want to miss that?

Kranzhornalm – hut atmosphere for all ages

Located on one of the most beautiful mountain viewpoints in Kufsteinerland, in Erl, Kranzhornalm at 1,300 meters is famous for its sensational breakfasts (from 9 am). Scrambled eggs with bacon, homemade spreads, organic juices and coffee give hungry hikers energy. Animals to pet, a children's playground, and even their own little alm attract families to Kranzhornalm over and over again. On the topic of families: The easiest path leads from Erl via Erlbergerstraße, and takes only one hour to reach the hut at 1,300 meters. Alternatively there are also longer paths for sporty hikers, from the Scheiben district, Samerberg or from Nussdorf/Windhausen.

Recommended because: Short distance (perfect with children) and a substantial breakfast

Ritzau Alm – vitamin kick in the morning

At Ritzau Alm in Ebbs breakfast is served from 8:00 am. And it looks good. Even from afar you can smell the aroma of freshly baked bread. And to accompany it the hostess Barbara serves organic eggs, sausage, cheese, vegetable platters, jams, honey, Nutella, fruit salad, freshly squeezed juices and sparkling wine. And naturally a spot in the first row on the sun terrace if you're there early enough. The hut at 1,160 meters can be easily reached by families and hikers in a 2.5 hour walk from Ebbs via the Kaisertalaufstieg.

My tip: The freshly squeezed juices. You need plenty to drink after the steep climb ;-)

Stöfflhütte – a stopover for mountain hikers

The Stöfflhütte in Schwoich is located at 1,170 m, in the middle of the natural paradise at the foot of Zettenkaiserkopf. Hikers are treated to a wonderful breakfast (from 8 am) with homemade products. Cheese, jam, butter and bread are made directly on the alm. And you can taste it! To get there you can take either simple paths along forestry roads (for example starting at Hintersteiner See), or more challenging mountain hikes (for example the tour over Zettenkaiser).

Hiking tip: Stöfflhütte is the perfect starting point for summit tours, for example Scheffauer or Zettenkaiser.

Kufsteiner Haus – for early birds

Kufsteiner Haus on Pendling is perfect for early risers. Early birds are rewarded with a rustic mountain breakfast at 1,537 meters from 7 am. If you want you can also accompany your butter, jam, sausage, cheese and eggs with homemade summit schnapps from the Mairhofschen distillery. And one of the best ingredients awaits you on the sun terrace: The unforgettable view of the Inn Valley and the entire Kaiser Mountains, all the way to Hohen Tauern and the Zillertal Alps. Wonderful panoramas accompany hikers on the ascent from Gasthof Schneeberg (1.5 hours) or from Kufstein (approx. 3 hours).
